Tips in Dealing with Caregiver Stress

“There are only four kinds of people in the world – those who have been caregivers, those who are currently caregivers, those who will be caregivers and those who will need caregivers.” — Former First Lady, Rosalyn Carter

As Baby Boomers continue to age in record numbers, the role of caregiver will continue to take on greater and greater importance, both for the Baby Boomers themselves as well as the generations to follow. Caregivers care for any person who needs assistance regardless of age, but increasingly, the elderly are becoming the focus of caregiving issues. There are a multitude of industry professionals who specialize in providing either companion or health care to the elderly, wherever they may be. However, the majority of true caregivers are family or friends who are unpaid and may lack the desired trainingrequired to deal with issues specific to the aging population.

Eighty-Four-year-old Dr. Thomas Curtis and one of his five caretakers, Cyrise Davis, 50, flip through one of Dr. Curtis’ scrapbooks in Dr. Curtis' home on Homestead Road in Chapel Hill, N.C. Dr. Curtis is suffering the onset of Alzheimer’s disease which makes his short term memory almost nonexistent. He also experiences OCD and a sleep disorder that hinder his cognitive state as well as his mobility.

We were excited to learn (and to share with you) that an industry colleague of ours,Anthony Cirillo, has developed a unique opportunity for caregivers of all types to attend a5-day virtual Caregiving Summit that will be made available online beginning on October 30. The Caregiver Smile Summit is a five-day event that will transform your caregiving experiences by providing practical knowledge to make you a better caregiver & taking care of your own health, while preparing you for your own aging journey. Anthony has assembled 50 experts in the fields of caregiving and the elderly to share their expertise that will educate, enlighten, and empower you in your caregiving journey.

The really great thing, logistically speaking, about this seminar is that upon registration (and after it goes live), you may view any or all of the sessions at your leisure! Viewing capabilities are yours in perpetuity!
